Forthcoming Activity for 2015

The Dick Winters Memorial Contest

This will be operated by the Melton Mowbray Amateur Radio Society(MMARS) in memory of Richard Winters who was their club secretary and a main driving

force behind the club. The contest runs from January 1st until 31st march 2015 and has two categories CW and Phone (SSB/FM).

All HF bands may be used by member contestants with a maximum power output of 100 watts.

The contest is being sponsored by ML&S and local business.

(Whilst not directly involved, RSARS members will be welcome to  have a QSO with any of the MMARS stations during this period.)

 GB0VED (Victory in Europe Day)

Runs from 2nd May to 29th May 2015 to mark the end of WW2 7/8th May 1945, 70th anniversary

Details are on QRZ,com and a QSL card will be sent to all contacts made.

The SES is being run by Brian M0YBX (RSARS 4224) and it is planned to operate

in 2 hour blocks each day over the HF bands from 40M to 10m propogation permitting, with some possible 2M use

Recent Activity Photo’s PA0XXX

Between 14 and 22 September 2014, Tim M0ACV/3965 and Mike G0NRK/RAFARS took part in the Operation Market Garden Commemorations in the Netherlands.

The Special Call PA0XXX had been allocated to them for use whilst taking part in the activities.

Additionally Tim held the RSARS Affiliated number F397.

Although it was difficult to get on and operate, they did manage a couple of sessions and managed to give some points away to members for which we are grateful.

In the interests of the Society Awards scheme this call sign is now activated very frequently on SSB, CW, RTTY, PSK and VHF until current active members have been worked then maybe reduced to once per month or as needed. Regular announcements will be made as to further intended activity and results.

This is the call sign of the Blandford Garrison Amateur Radio Club and is operated from Cole Block Blandford Camp at various times during the week when time allows.Club meetings are held every Tuesday lunch time and every first Thursday of the month.

This call sign has been reactivated after years of non-use.

NOTE! THE N2DAN KEY AWARD NOTE!

Donated by E. H. (“Ted”) Ross GM3LWS, the No.4 Mercury Key designed and constructed by the late Steve Nurkiewicz N2DAN is awarded to the Member making the most progress within the RSARS Awards Scheme during each calendar year CW ONLY mode. A shield, presented to the Society by the late Brian Rowe G4WYG, records the winners.
The key is presented at the AGM and is for use of the winning Member for the ensuing year. NOTE: With effect from 30 June 2012 the year’s holder is Dennis G3PNF. An appreciation of Stefan (“Steve“) Stanislaw Nurkiewicz – N2DAN – RSARS 1676 by Ursula M. Sadler, W4/GØIHM (now sadly herself also SK) and the biography of Steve are available from the E-Library of this website within the documentation at: The

This net is run annually on New Years Eve by a number of different operators.
